Carolina Flyers had a strong showing at the Rock Hill Classic. The Classic is a great three day event starting with Friday Night Sprints where Justin Hand came within millimeters of winning the Masters 35+ Cat 1/2/3 class. Chris Steele pulled away and won the Masters 50+ Cat 4/5 Sprints as well.
The great results continued on Saturday with the Patriot’s Trail Road Race. Doug Engel won the Masters 50+ Cat 4/5 with other teammates (Randy Smith, Don MacIntrye and Chris Steele) controlling the pack and taking 4th, 5th and 6th. Hannah Coughlin won in the Women 4’s class and also the Queen of the Mountain title.
Sunday’s Crit race was spectacular with Matt Botting putting the hammer down and running away from the field in the Masters 35+. Matt also had teammates (Chris Sheehan, Chris Thomas and Rick Maset) that masterfully controlled the pack. Was an incredible race for the guys and for the people watching.
The Omnium results were strong with Hannah Coughlin getting 2nd place in Women’s 4, Chris Steele getting 3rd place in Masters 50+ Cat 4/5, Lars Tonnesen getting 6th in Cat 4 amd Justin Hand coming in 11th in Masters 35+ Cat 1/2/3.
Also want to extend congrats to Robin Farina who co-owns Uptown Cycles on winning the Rock Hill Crit on Sunday where she lapped the field!

Joe Hathcock raced this past weekend in the 2010 East Blvd Bar & Grill Winter Short Track Series #1 at Renaissance Park. He won the Super Sport Men’s division. It was the first win for Joe and the Carolina Flyers team this year. Also in this division, Marcus Morgan came in 7th. Chris Vigna came in 11th and Lee Champion came in 14th. So a great start to the 2010 season!
